How To Get The Most From Working With An Approved Inspector

Whilst the local authority might be the first option many consider when they require building control, it isn’t the only option. At C80 Group, we’re proud to have two well established Building Control Approved Inspectors within our organisation: YDBC and Ask Building Control.

Approved Inspectors are licensed by the Construction Industry Council (CIC) and authorised to carry out inspections to ensure construction projects are adhering to the building regulations. Here are some tips to ensure you get the most from working with an Approved Inspector as your chosen building control body.

Early engagement

Decisions made at the start of a construction project can have long term implications. By engaging with a building inspector as early as possible, we can help you avoid costly-to-correct mistakes and ensure best practice is followed from the start. From plan checking to prompt advice on the ever-evolving building regulations, we’ll make sure your project is a success.

Provide as much information as possible

In order to provide you with an accurate quote, we’ll request things like drawings and plans. Other documents such as structural calculations are also useful. The more information you can provide us with, the more tailored advice we can give you, helping your project to run efficiently.

Give notice for site visits

Although we aim to be on site within 24-48 hours of you requesting a visit, the more notice you give us, the better the service we can provide. Prior notice allows us to plan other inspections around yours effectively so we can dedicate each project the time it deserves.

Work with us – we are here to assist

As a commercially minded, solutions focused organisation, we want to work with you, not against you. We don’t want to create any barriers between you and your desired outcomes for your project so we encourage clients to open a dialogue with us and ask plenty of questions so we can find safe, compliant solutions for your project.

One building control partner for multiple locations

If you work on projects across a wide geographical area, you’ll need to work with different local authority building control bodies which can lead to differences in the service you receive and the need to deal with multiple points of contact.

By choosing to work with an Approved Inspector instead, you’re choosing a partner who isn’t confined geographically. We work with architects, builders, contractors and more to help them receive a consistent building control service no matter where their projects are located.
